It is also used in adults with type 2 diabetes who are at high cardiovascular risk to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death.

Rybelsus is not approved as a weight loss medication, although some patients may experience weight reduction during treatment.

Rybelsus contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which mimics a natural hormone involved in glucose regulation.
